I initially created AntiSpam to help my Grandparents correspond with all of their grandchildren using the Internet. I am fortunate enough to have both sets of grandparents with me still… and they both now have computers and internet connections. One day I overheard my grandfather talking to my mother about some sweepstakes he thought he had won. It was a Publisher's Clearinghouse type of letter that had been sent via traditional mail. It turns out that my Grandfather's generation grew up in a world where correspondence was something taken seriously, the idea of scams and misleading solicitations was a foreign one. I shuttered to think what would happen when they began receiving official and genuine sounding emails! They needed a way to remove the SPAM… yet they needed a way that did not require ANY interaction on their part. Oh, and they needed a solution that DID NOT BLOCK ANY LEGITIMATE EMAIL!

That was the impetus for the creation of AntiSpam Personal. I built some software that is easy to use because it does all of the hard work of configuration automatically. I did this to help people like my grandparents that were just getting used to this thing called the computer and had a hard time doing things like looking up their POP mail server or even remembering the password for their account.

I extended the concept of letting the software figure out the details when I added features such as automatically using the highest form of encrypted communication available from the email servers. I knew there was no way my grandparents would "turn on" that option in their email software themselves, and in fact most of the popular email software had old implementation of this privacy feature. I made it so that AntiSpam will automatically figure out if your sever supports encryption and if it does it automatically uses that encryption regardless of what email client you are using. Hurray I said, no more cable modem users sending emails in a form that all of the neighbors could intercept and read! And yes, that is a HUGE problem that NOBODY seems to talk about.
